Still Becoming: Following God on the Hard Days
There are days when getting out of bed and facing what comes next feels difficult. I want to move forward, but I find myself wondering whether I am doing any of this right.
I have loved Christ for a long time. Even so, beginning something new can bring old fears to the surface. What if people see my flaws? What if more is expected of me when I already feel stretched? I am still learning how to bring those questions to God.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 · KJV
Come as you are today.
In Matthew 11:28–30, Jesus invites the weary to come to Him, take His yoke, and learn from Him. He describes Himself as meek and lowly in heart. His invitation gives us somewhere to bring the weight we are carrying.
I can pray honestly before I know how to explain everything: Lord, I am tired. I am afraid. I want to follow You, and I need Your help with today. There is room for that prayer, even when it is all I can find words to say.
Let the next step be small.
When I look too far ahead, I can start carrying responsibilities that are not mine to carry today. For now, I can return to Scripture, consider what is actually before me, and seek wise counsel.
A small step might be tending to an ordinary responsibility, making time to rest, or telling someone trustworthy that I am struggling. Asking for support can be part of moving forward. I can also set thoughtful boundaries around my time and what I share.
Leave room for becoming.
Sharing something I have learned does not mean my own learning is finished. I can be honest about what I know and humble about what I am still trying to understand.
Today may still be hard after I have prayed. I may need help, patience, and another small beginning tomorrow. I can keep coming to Christ while I am still becoming.
Pause and reflect.
Read Matthew 11:28–30 slowly. What burden do you need to bring to Christ today? What is one manageable next step, and who could support you in taking it?
A simple prayer.
Lord Jesus, You know the weariness I struggle to explain and the fears I carry into new beginnings. Help me come to You honestly. Teach me through Your Word, give me wisdom about today’s responsibilities, and help me receive support when I need it. Give me patience as I learn to walk with You. Amen.
