Hear God’s Voice
A gentle place to begin: open His Word, draw near in prayer, and learn to walk with the Shepherd.
You can begin right where you are.
You do not need perfect words or a perfectly quiet life to turn toward God. Bring your questions, your distractions, and your desire to know Him. Begin with a little time and an open Bible.
Listening is part of a relationship with Jesus. Our foundation is His Word, rather than the pressure to produce a special experience.
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:”
John 10:27 · KJV
01 · Open His Word
Get to know the Shepherd.
Read John 10:1–18 and 10:27–30 slowly. Notice what Jesus says about His sheep, His care, and His voice. Ask what the passage reveals about Him before asking what it means for your next decision.
Write down one truth about Jesus that you want to carry into your day.
02 · Make room for prayer
Bring your heart to God.
Tell Him what is on your mind. Ask for wisdom, understanding, and a willing heart. Leave a little space for reflection without trying to force an answer.
Some days will feel quiet. That does not mean you have failed. Keep returning to Scripture and prayer.
03 · Discern with care
Test what you think you hear.
Not every thought, feeling, dream, or coincidence is a message from God. Examine impressions in the light of Scripture and the character of Jesus. A strong feeling or a sense of peace, by itself, is not proof.
Read 1 John 4:1 and James 1:5. Seek counsel from mature, trusted Christians, and allow time for important decisions. You do not need to rush because an impression feels urgent.
04 · Take a faithful step
Respond to what is clear.
You may not have every answer, but you can practice what Scripture already teaches: love your neighbor, speak truthfully, forgive, and serve. Let obedience begin with the next faithful step in front of you.
A simple prayer
Lord, help me listen.
Father, thank You for meeting me in Your Word. Help me know Jesus more deeply. Give me wisdom to recognize what is true, patience when the way is unclear, and courage to obey what You have made clear. Quiet my heart and teach me to walk with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Carry one question with you.
What is one truth from today’s Scripture reading that I can put into practice?
Return to this question throughout the day. Let this be a beginning you can come back to, one quiet moment at a time.
